We have done extensive research, talked with students and hydroponic people and shops. What we found is an interesting paradox. The public’s view of why people fail was:

  • Cost: they don’t want to invest much in the unknown
  • Confusion: too much info and most info is inaccurate
  • Complexity: when purchasing a system
  • Chemistry of the water: this is the most important part of growing. Sales people have a lack of knowledge on this. They know the systems very well. Not the growing process.

Here is the interesting part. The sales people feel they need to embellish and make the systems complex. This is to offset the price. They feel that this is the selling point. So many people balk at the price and the “high tech” jargon used to make the sale. This scares most off. The consumers have done their due diligence on the systems and can get a different story from the sales people. This is a red flag from the people I have spoken with.
